CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character Name: Haurchefant “of the Silver Fuller” de Fortemps
Age: Mid-Thirties
Canon: Final Fantasy XIV
Canon Point: Directly after he gifts the player character a Black Chocobo in Heavensward.
Character Information: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Haurchefant
3.0 Heavensward spoilers to follow
Personality:
Haurchefant is regarded by nearly everyone as eccentric, but unwaveringly positive and kind. He is brave and loyal, a seeker of truth, practical, romantic, and forward. He values strength, competence, and flexibility. He tells main character, the Warrior of Light (WoL from herein), these very things during an event where he also compares them to a horse.
He is extremely friendly in stark contrast to his countrymen. They are typically only concerned with their own people and their own priorities in their incredibly bloody thousand-year war. The other noblemen of his country remark to the WoL that if anyone is willing to help, it would be Haurchefant in all his good naturedness and love of adventurers. Later, in the midst of absolute crisis, he brings his friends and allies hot cocoa, sporting a kind smile. He reminds his friends, and especially his young friend that he should keep his chin up.
His bravery, loyalty, and protectiveness show up constantly in his interactions and in stories of him through other characters. When the WoL goes to fight a particularly dangerous battle, someone tells you that Haurchefant needed to be bodily restrained by 6 men when he found out where and what you were doing. He comes to the WoL’s aid to fight alongside them many times throughout the story, risking his life in battles and in dangerous territory. He also risks his neck to help many others on his own and through the WoL. He stands up for a dear childhood friend who was about to die by trial under false circumstance.
Haurchefant is very transparent as a person. He is very honest, and does not resort to deceit unless as a last resort and for the benefit of his closest allies. When the WoL is caught up in an enormous falsified scandal, Haurchefant comes to the rescue to shelter them first at his camp and then later with his father at the family manor.
Haurchefant expresses his oddness in several ways. One of them is his unrepentant love of horses. This stems from a few logical places, they bear resemblance to his house’s symbol, the unicorn. They also share characteristics with the sorts of things he values in people, such as muscles, obedience, and a balance of gentleness and fierceness. During the celebration of the Year of the Horse, he voluntarily sported a horse mask and spoke passionately of his love of horses. During a holiday feast, he will eat like a horse, in quantity and type of food. He loves apple pastries.
Something that comes off more obviously in his Japanese dialogue, but lives on in all of the details is Haurchefant’s casually amorous nature. He is wont to speak breathily and emphatically, littering his speech with noises of sexually charged delight and adjectives. He invites the Hero of Light multiple times into bed with him. He states that a “warm welcome and warmer hearth” await the Hero at their return. He openly laments that some of his lingerie has gone missing. He calls it “frippery” and remarks that revealing clothing is very rare in his cold, snow covered climate. He commissions the player for a leather chest harness through one of his staff members in a sidequest.
The ultimate expression of his personality, however, when he is on a dangerous mission with the Hero to free a an important person. As they pursued their villain, a guard took aim to kill the Hero, so Haurchefant jumped in the way to defend them with his shield. The shield breaks, and he is dealt a killing blow through the stomach. He tells the Hero that he is relieved to see that he is safe; and his last words are to tell the Hero that a “smile befits a hero” while the Hero is obviously distressed. Even in his very last he maintains a kind dignity and loves the WoL so much that he wants the last thing he sees to be his smiling face as he holds his hand.

Roleplay Sample:
Haurchefant had been expecting a regular report from his men, but jumped in his seat as the door slammed open.
"My Lord, come quickly! There is something strange outside of camp! I believe it is a heretic, but unlike one we have seen!"
He stood at once, taking up his arms and striding out the door. He followed his men, ordering a couple more to follow. Right away, the five pairs of boots came to a stop in the snow. Lord Fortemps squinted in the dreadful snowfall at the shape of a large man. He came closer cautiously, and let out a short laugh.
He turned and called, "You younglings have never seen an Auri man, have you?" He turned back to face the bloodied soldier. "I don't know what they teach you as boys these days, but this is no dragon." He knelt down, still maintaining his caution. Just because he wasn’t a member of the Horde didn’t mean that he was safe to approach.
"Are you still alive, Au Ra?”
The Au Ra looked up and snarled a reply. He asked fiercely if he meant to correct that.
"I have no interest in slaughtering wounded innocents, lest you mean my camp harm. I am Haurchefant de Fortemps, I am in charge around here. What is your name?"
He looked the Xaela over, gazing at his peculiar sword. The man would have to be a beast to wield it. He wasn't so sure about “innocent” with all the blood covering the other man, but he had seen plenty of gored adventurers. He was admittedly excited to meet this beautiful and exotic stranger. He had only seen a handful of Au Ra in his life, and never so close up.
